On June 13, 2026, No Comply Skateshop in Austin, Texas, drops its second connection with New Balance Numeric: the NM480 “Hippies & Cowboys.” Priced at $110, this Texas-rooted skate shoe fuses cowboy grit with psychedelic flair, celebrating the unifying power of music in the Live Music Capital of the World. Scheduled for broader overseas availability shortly after the local launch, it builds on the success of last year’s shop-inspired pair with deeper cultural storytelling.

The “Hippies & Cowboys” theme draws directly from a pivotal 1971 moment in Austin’s music history. Willie Nelson, disillusioned with Nashville’s commercial scene, returned to Texas and invited Waylon Jennings to join him. At the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters, Jennings peeked from behind the curtain and witnessed an unlikely harmony: hippies and cowboys mingling peacefully, united by music rather than divided by appearance or lifestyle.

Willie Nelson later reflected: “I saw hippies and rednecks drinking beer together and smoking dope together and having a good time together and I knew it was possible to get all groups of people together—long hair, short hair, no hair—and music would bring them together.” This spirit of unity amid culture clash defines the shoe, mirroring Austin’s evolving identity as a blend of Texan roots and progressive influx.

No Comply, a skater-owned shop since 2007 at 824 W 12th St, channels this heritage into wearable art. While the previous collab honored the store’s physical aesthetic, “Hippies & Cowboys” pays tribute to the city’s outlaw country legacy and vibrant music scene.

The upper combines premium black and arid stone (light brown) suedes, evoking classic cowboy boots and cork-and-suede footwear. This western foundation is elevated with tumbled leather mid-panels featuring “N” branding: red paisley on the exterior and custom tie-dye on the interior. Denim accents the heel collar, embroidered with a frayed “No Comply” logo for that lived-in, rebellious edge.

Standout details include hidden velvet stash pockets in each tongue—lined in rich purple, nodding to the interior of vintage guitar cases. Perfect for stashing picks, cash, or small essentials. The insole artwork showcases paisley patterns and a custom tie-dye design by No Comply team rider Alder Wilson.

Practical skate functionality remains front and center. The Numeric 480’s proven construction delivers durability, board feel, and comfort. Three lace options—black flat, black round, and hemp rope—allow personalization, blending utility with bohemian character.

Colorway: Black/Arid Stone. SKU: UN480SMK. The design strikes a perfect balance—rugged yet artistic, suitable for sessions at the skatepark or casual wear around town.

In an era of rapid gentrification and cultural blending in Austin, this collab feels especially resonant. It honors the city’s outlaw country roots while embracing its modern, eclectic identity. No Comply continues its tradition of meaningful collaborations that go beyond aesthetics to tell local stories—making the shoe a collectible artifact of place and time.

For skaters, it’s a high-shoe tool with soul. For shoe enthusiasts, it’s a narrative-driven piece that stands out in a sea of hype drops. The fusion of western suedes, psychedelic prints, and functional details creates a versatile silhouette that transitions seamlessly from street to session.

This release reinforces New Balance Numeric’s commitment to authentic skate partnerships. The 480 model has proven itself as a reliable, stylish option, and No Comply’s creative direction elevates it into something culturally significant.

Pair the “Hippies & Cowboys” with raw denim, vintage band tees, or even tailored chinos for a modern cowboy-meets-hippie look. The neutral suede base makes it easy to style, while the paisley and tie-dye accents add personality. On the board, the durable build holds up to heavy use.

As Austin evolves—balancing its musical heritage with tech growth and new residents—this shoe serves as a reminder of unity through creativity. No Comply’s approach exemplifies how skate culture can preserve and reinterpret local stories for new generations.

The NM480 “Hippies & Cowboys” is more than footwear; it’s a wearable celebration of harmony, rebellion, and the power of music to bridge divides. With strong materials, thoughtful details, and a compelling backstory, it’s poised to become a standout in 2026’s collaborative landscape.

Either you’re lining up in Austin on June 13 or catching the overseas drop, this is one to experience. Head to No Comply’s site or local retailers for updates, and keep an eye out for the limited guitar case packaging—true collector’s gold.

In the spirit of Willie and Waylon, this shoe brings different worlds together on your feet. Long live the outlaw spirit.
