DRIFT

Padel courts, a Billboard record wall, and a silk robe with his own crest: Drake’s second NOCTA Manor was less afterparty than victory lap.

The World Cup final wrapped in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19, with Spain beating Argentina on the biggest stage the tournament could offer. Within days, Drake had commandeered a private estate not far from that same stadium and turned it into the second edition of NOCTA Manor, his ongoing collide with Nike that treats a rented mansion the way other artists treat a merch table.

If the timing feels deliberate, that’s because it is. Nike ran a heavily staffed suite at the final itself, with Drake, Kevin Durant, and a rotating cast of athletes and rappers checking in throughout the tournament’s closing stretch. NOCTA Manor picked up where that suite left off, giving the same circle of guests somewhere to land once the medals had been handed out and the crowds had cleared the stadium.

This wasn’t a one-off idea. The first NOCTA Manor ran in the summer of 2025 outside London, timed to Drake’s three night run at Wireless Festival. That version took over a gothic style countryside estate in Windsor and introduced the format: branded zones, a themed basketball court, curated guest list, and a heavy dose of product placement dressed up as hospitality. The New Jersey edition is being treated internally, and in the press coverage that followed, as the second annual installment, which tells you Nike and Drake now consider this a recurring fixture rather than a one time stunt.

The choice of moment matters here too. A World Cup final is one of the few events on the calendar that briefly puts sport, fashion, and entertainment in the same room without anyone needing an excuse. Nike had already spent the tournament positioning itself at that intersection through its stadium suite, and folding the closing weekend into an owned, on brand environment let the company keep that audience engaged for a few extra days rather than letting the moment evaporate the instant the final whistle blew. For a public still buzzing over Spain’s win over Argentina, NOCTA Manor offered a kind of extended epilogue, one where the biggest story wasn’t the match anymore but what happened once the stadium emptied out.

stir

Strip away the celebrity guest list and NOCTA Manor is, at its core, a very expensive showroom. NOCTA is the Nike sub-label Drake launched in December 2020, built around what he described at the time as working class style filtered through his own nocturnal creative process. Five years in, the line has expanded well past jackets and tracksuits into footwear, accessories, and now, with this event, sporting goods.

The Manor concept exists to let that expanded catalog breathe in a setting no retail floor could replicate. Rather than a lookbook or a runway show, guests get to live inside the product for a few days: sleeping in NOCTA branded pajamas, playing sport in NOCTA branded gear, eating off custom tableware stamped with the same crest that shows up on the merch. It’s brand marketing structured as a house party, and the fact that it keeps generating its own press cycle, robe reveals, sneaker customs, product debuts, suggests the format is working exactly as intended.

Descriptions from people on site paint a property that leans hard into spectacle. A basketball court had been dressed up with banners celebrating Drake’s own chart history: references to his run of more than 400 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, a stretch of 431 consecutive weeks on the chart between 2009 and 2017, and newer records tied to his recent run of albums, Iceman, Maid of Honour, and Habibti. It’s the kind of self mythologizing that would read as excessive coming from almost anyone else, but for an artist whose entire persona runs on keeping score, hanging his own statistics from the rafters of a private sports court tracks as consistent branding rather than a strange flex.

Three guests pose together inside a softly lit outdoor event tent, wearing Nike and NOCTA apparel beneath string lights and patio heaters during a nighttime gathering at NOCTA Manor.

Beyond the basketball court, the estate reportedly included a dedicated tennis setup and, new for this edition, a padel court that became one of the weekend’s centerpieces. A private chef handled the food side of things, and DJ sets kept the property running late into the night. Live music also made an appearance: R&B group Jagged Edge performed for guests, a booking that leans into the nostalgia adjacent programming Drake has favored at his events in recent years, pairing current chart dominance with a soundtrack pulled from an earlier era of R&B.

That pairing, championship banners on one side of the property and a nineties R&B act on the other, is a fairly precise summary of how Drake tends to build these environments. Nothing about NOCTA Manor is left to chance or treated as incidental scenery. Even the dining side of the retreat carried the same branding logic that governs the apparel and footwear, with custom tableware and serving pieces stamped to match the rest of the property, turning a private chef’s plating into just another surface for the crest to appear on. Described secondhand by attendees and documented in clips circulating from the weekend, the overall impression is less a party thrown inside a house and more a house built, temporarily, entirely around one continuous piece of branding.

debut

The most substantive news to come out of the weekend had nothing to do with the party atmosphere at all. Nike used NOCTA Manor as the launch setting for its first ever padel rackets, a category the brand hasn’t previously competed in. Three models were shown: the Nike Command, built around a double perforated face and a carbon construction the brand compares to premium 16K weaves; the Nike Attack, an aggressively shaped racket aimed at players who favor an offensive game; and the Nike Balance, a more classically proportioned 12K carbon racket pitched as an all around option.

Padel has been one of the fastest growing racket sports worldwide over the last several years, and Nike’s entry into the category carries real competitive weight against established padel specialists. Fittingly, the brand didn’t just bring the product, it brought the sport’s actual talent: professional padel players Juan Lebrón and Agustín Tapia were on site for the unveiling, giving the rackets a credibility check that a celebrity party alone couldn’t provide. Drake, for his part, played in a padel tournament at the estate with Devin Booker as his doubles partner, which is either a genuinely fun way to spend a weekend or the single most on brand way to product test sporting goods that exists.

For a company the size of Nike, entering a sport it has never previously supplied equipment for is a slower, more deliberate decision than it might appear from the outside. Padel’s growth has been driven heavily by crossover interest from tennis and pickleball players, and the category currently has room for a major athletic brand to establish itself before the competitive landscape hardens further. Choosing NOCTA Manor as the stage for that entry, rather than a standalone trade event or a quiet retail rollout, signals that Nike wants the padel line associated from day one with the same cultural energy that already surrounds NOCTA, rather than positioned as a separate, purely technical sporting goods release.

huh

No NOCTA Manor happens without a wardrobe moment, and this year’s centerpiece was a custom silk robe made for Drake by Milan based designer Domenico Formichetti, founder of the label PDF Channel. The piece was crafted from Como silk, a material tied to a region of Italy known specifically for high end silk production, and carries an embroidered crest reading NOCTA MANOR MMXXVI, using Roman numerals to date the piece to 2026. Formichetti shared the robe himself along with a look at its interior tag, which specifies the Como silk origin and Italian manufacture in Italian.

Footwear also got the custom treatment. Attendees reportedly received pairs of Nike’s Mind 001 mule, a slide style shoe built around a set of sensory nodes the brand markets as a calming, focus aiding technology. Custom colorways were made specifically for the event, including a black pair finished with smoke style graphics and a gradient pair moving from light blue to hot pink, the only colorway in the batch to carry visible NOCTA branding, marked with the sub-label’s three cross logo on the tongue.

The Nike Mind Science recovery slide combines sculpted comfort with breathable detailing and a bold graphic footbed.

who

Guest lists at these events tend to blur between confirmed attendees and people simply spotted in photos and clips, so it’s worth being precise about who’s actually been named in connection with this specific edition. Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, both NBA players with existing Nike ties, were present and visible throughout, including in the padel tournament and in photo moments circulating from the property. Rappers Loe Shimmy and Sexyy Red were also on site, with Sexyy Red previously having worked with Drake on his Habibti project. Manager Simon Gebrelul, recently recognized on Billboard Canada’s 40 Under 40 list, appeared in footage singing along during one of the weekend’s more casual moments.

That roster sits alongside the broader pattern established at the 2025 Windsor edition, which drew a similar mix of NBA figures and rap convincers, including Central Cee, 21 Savage, and Yeat. Whether all of that same circle made the trip to New Jersey for the World Cup edition isn’t fully confirmed in press coverage, and it’s worth treating any specific 2026 guest claim as tied to whichever outlet actually documented it on site rather than assuming full overlap with last year’s list.

fin

It’s easy to look at NOCTA Manor and file it under celebrity excess, and there’s plenty of that on display, a padel court built for a weekend, a silk robe made to order in Italy, custom sneakers produced for a guest list rather than a store shelf. But the format also does something more specific for Nike than a normal celebrity endorsement would. Traditional athlete marketing puts a product on a famous body and lets the association do the work. NOCTA Manor instead builds an entire environment around the product line and invites press coverage of the environment itself, which means every piece of custom merchandise, every unveiled racket, every branded detail becomes its own individually shareable story rather than a single campaign image.

That’s also why the padel launch mattered more than it might first appear. Nike didn’t quietly ship review units to padel media, it built a weekend around the product and let two of the sport’s actual professionals validate it in front of an audience that skews toward exactly the demographic Nike wants shopping the category. Pairing that with Drake’s built in press cycle turns a category entry that might otherwise get a modest trade write up into a story that reaches entertainment, sneaker, sports, and lifestyle press simultaneously.

Five years into the NOCTA partnership, that combination, genuine product news wrapped inside a celebrity spectacle, is starting to look less like a one-off gimmick and more like the operating model for how Drake and Nike plan to keep introducing new categories. Whether next year’s version lands in another country entirely or returns to the tristate area, the format itself, private estate, branded everything, a product debut hiding inside the party, seems built to repeat.
