Run DMC’s Influence

Formed in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell, Run DMC is widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in hip-hop history. As pioneers of the genre, they helped usher in the golden age of hip hop and paved the way for future generations of artists. Their unique style and emphasis on the MC and DJ relationship set them apart from their contemporaries, ultimately shaping the course of hip-hop culture.

Run DMC’s first album, “Run-D.M.C.” (1984), achieved Gold record status, making them the first hip-hop group to reach this milestone. Over the years, the group continued to create groundbreaking music, including their hit single, “Christmas in Hollis.” In a testament to their enduring popularity, Run DMC recently performed the classic song for the Disney Holiday Special after a nearly two-decade hiatus.
