DRIFT

Babe America closes her new EP on its hush-push nerve, and “CANDYNECKLACE” is where the sweetness curdles.

Babe America dropped ANGELFOODCAKE on July 23, a tight seven track, nineteen minute forty six second EP that opens on the glitchy kiss off of “TIMESNEWROMAN” and works through “STREETCAR DESIRE,” “CAIRO (I Like That…),” “SUNBLEACHED,” “NIKKI’S PERFUME” and the explicit tagged “MENTALMAN!” before landing on “CANDYNECKLACE,” the longest cut on the record at three minutes thirty three seconds. Placing the title track adjacent, sugar coated subtle at the very back of the tracklist reads as a deliberate structure choice: everything before it moves fast, everything about the closer slows down.

Cage Riot, the distributor behind Babe America’s catalog since her 2023 debut EP LOVELESS, has handled the rollout the same way it did for her 2024 album HURTMORE and this year’s steady single rel of “King of California,” “Kiss Rn,” “4UREYESONLY” and its part two, “Domino$,” “FAKE ID” and “TIMESNEWROMAN,” all of which fed directly into ANGELFOODCAKE rather than sitting outside it. That rel rhythm, roughly a single every couple of months across 2025 and into 2026, has functioned as a rolling album campaign more than a convene single cycle.

The name on the copyright line tells its own story. Every phonogram credit across Babe America’s catalog, from “girl and the machine” to “King of California,” reads “Ava Morse, Distributed by Cage Riot,” and an Instagram post from her own account frames the moniker directly: Ava Morse, “officially entering her new era as Babe America.” It’s a rebrand rather than a mystery, the kind of persona shift several pop acts have leaned on to separate an earlier chapter from a current one.

That earlier chapter includes co-writes credited to Aiden Marceron, Collin Taylor and Isaac Dunbar on “TIMESNEWROMAN,” and Riley Aki production on HURTMORE cuts like “girl and the machine” and “godspeed,” giving ANGELFOODCAKE’s rollout a small, consistent circle of convincers rather than a rotating cast. “CANDYNECKLACE” itself hasn’t surfaced individual writer or producer credits yet on the platforms that track that information, which tracks with how recently it fell.
