The new single anchors The Hard Way (Complete Edition) and lands the same week as his Lollapalooza debut.
Cameron Whitcomb released “Want For Nothing” via Atlantic Outpost this week, and the song is doing more work than a typical single drop. It anchors The Hard Way (Complete Edition), the expanded rerelease that the Canadian singer-songwriter has described as the final chapter of the debut era he opened back in 2024 with the EP Quitter. Where his earlier singles, “Medusa,” “Options,” “The Hard Way” itself, tended to sit inside a specific emotion register, grief, sobriety, the pull of old habits, “Want For Nothing” reads more like a summary statement, built around the same raw, weathered vocal delivery that has become his sig.

The Hard Way, Whitcomb’s debut studio album, came out in September 2025 through Atlantic Records and went on to earn Gold certification in Canada. Its lead single, “Quitter,” dates back to July 2024, and the record has been extended twice since, first with a deluxe edition, now with this complete edition built around “Want For Nothing.” The throughline across all of it has been Whitcomb’s own recovery story. He has spoken directly about writing “Medusa” out of a heavy breakup while newly sober, and about “Options” coming out of a recurring dream he had after getting clean, one where he imagined flying to the Yukon with whisky and cocaine just to prove to himself that the choice not to was still his to make. “Want For Nothing” arrives as the closing statement on that particular chapter, not the start of a new one.

The single did not need much of a runway. Teaser clips racked up more than 2.5 million views across social platforms before the song was even out, and a separate viral reel built around “The Hard Way” has pulled in over 95 million views in the past two weeks alone. That surge sits on top of an already strong year for Whitcomb. “Kingdom of Fear,” the lead single from his Deep Water EP, gave him his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and has since climbed into the top ten in Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with top five placements on country radio in the UK and Australia. The song’s Hot AC radio impression date in the US landed just days before “Want For Nothing” dropped.

The timing lines up with a genuine milestone. “Want For Nothing” arrived the day before Whitcomb’s official Lollapalooza debut in Chicago, where he played the Airbnb Stage. He has also spent the year opening HARDY’s Country! Country! Tour, releasing a surprise collaboration with Wyatt Flores that Diplo premiered under the name Whitcomb vs. Flores, and announcing his own headlining Kingdom of Fear Tour. Coming off an American Idol run back in 2022, Whitcomb has built the kind of year that makes a “final chapter” framing feel earned rather than premature, an artist closing one project while several others are already moving underneath it.
