On “No Brakes,” The Game Trades Neutral for a Verse Full of Receipts

“No Brakes” leaked hours before The Documentary III dropped, and one verse has Compton and Toronto talking.

During a livestream on Thursday, August 20, the media personality previewed “No Brakes,” a new Game and Drake slide, well before the Compton rapper had said a word about it publicly. Hours later Game confirm the reason for the leak’s timing: The Documentary III was landing that same night, and “No Brakes” was on it.

Game broke the news on Instagram Thursday, caption the album’s Jonathan Mannion-shot cover art with the arrive time, 9pm Pacific and midnight Eastern, and a pre-save link. He also used the post to credit his production team, naming Tommy Brown, Mike & Keys, and Travis Wilson as co-producers, with Treyvonce Moore engine on mixing and mastering. It’s the sequel two decades in the making: Game has point out himself that this is the third install in a series that started with his 2005 debut, meaning Documentary III arrives roughly 21 years after the original put Compton back on the map.

Per Akademiks, the album’s guest list runs deep: Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Snoop Dogg are all said to appear, alongside YG, whom Game confirmed himself follow their July VERZUZ matchup. That same week, the two also released “Red People,” a Swizz Beatz and Timbaland production, suggesting Documentary III has been building toward release for a while.

“No Brakes” is built on the kind of West Coast production Game has leaned on for two decades, with Drake taking the hook while Game handles the verses. It’s their first pairing since 2015’s “100,” a Documentary 2 single that dealt with fame eroding trust between friends, and the reunion has landed at a pointed moment: Drake’s high-profile feud with Kendrick Lamar, which escalated into dueling diss tracks in 2024, has never fully cooled off.

It’s a handful of lines in particular that set social media off. Game raps that it’s just him, Drake, and saga continue vib, brush off the idea that his circle has gotten smaller with a shrug, before going further: told to pick a side, he says he’s choosing mission instead. Fans instant connected the dots given the geography involved.
