A plush bear now rides the strap of the shower slide Adi Dassler brought to market in 1972, and the pale blue Clear Sky pair (KH9954) is listed for October 15 in Japan.
Three practical details define the Clear Sky pair on its official product listing: a soft textile upper and lining, an easy slip-on build, and a split footbed graphic, with the Trefoil under one foot and a Care Bear belly logo under the other. The detail anyone notices first sits on top. Every Care Bears x adidas Adilette Slide in the range wears a plush bear fixed to its strap, which turns one of the plainest shoes in the adidas Originals catalogue into something closer to a stuffed toy with a sole. This colorway, Clear Sky / Cloud White / Blue Bird under style code KH9954, now carries an October 15 date in Japan, roughly three months after the rest of the Care Bears range first reached Japanese retail.

Signal. What happened: the Clear Sky colorway of the Care Bears x adidas Originals Adilette slide is listed for an October 15, 2026 release in Japan. Exact object: Care Bears x adidas Adilette Slides, style code KH9954, women’s sizing, colorway Clear Sky / Cloud White / Blue Bird, textile upper with a plush bear fixed to the strap. When and where: October 15, 2026, in Japan; a retailer list and a yen price for this colorway had not been published at the time of writing, while the pink sister pair has been listed at ¥11,000. Source: adidas’s own KH9954 product list and Cloudco Entertainment’s collection announcement, with the October Japan date not yet confirmed by adidas Japan. Why it matters: the plush strap pushes licensed character footwear past the printed graphic and into toy design, on a model adidas has sold since 1972.

The product page never names a bear. It lists the colorway plainly and parks two sister pairs beside it, Almost Yellow / Cloud White / Preloved Yellow and Clear Pink / Cloud White / Lucid Pink. The announcement from Cloudco Entertainment, which ran the Care Bears business when the deal was struck, says the slide colorways draw on fan favorites including Funshine Bear, Cheer Bear, and Grumpy Bear, and Japanese retail listings show the full Adilette set running to five style codes, KH9953 through KH9957, including a brown Dusky Bronze pair.
Blue points one way. The identical Clear Sky / Cloud White / Blue Bird name appears on the collection’s Grumpy Bear inspired women’s Superstar II, which ships with a Care Bear keychain clipped to a Trefoil carabiner. The palette turns up again, spelled Clear Sky / Ftwr White / Bluebird, on a women’s adiStar Control 5 embroidered with bears, stars, and rainbows. Grumpy, the franchise’s resident cynic, wears a rain cloud on his belly, and the shared palette makes him the likeliest passenger on this strap, though the slide’s own listing stops short of saying so.
There is an echo in the color, too. The first Adilette came in dark blue with white Three Stripes, and KH9954’s blue and white pairing lands, half a century later, in roughly the same territory, softened to a pastel.
The slide grew out of an idea Adi Dassler had in 1963 for athletes stepping out of locker-room showers. He held off on production until he found a machine that could inject foam into the soles, and the Adilette reached the market in 1972, shortly before the Munich Olympics. Bears have climbed onto it before. Jeremy Scott’s JS Bear Adilette, released in October 2021, fixed an orange teddy head to a strap covered in yellow fur. The difference this time is provenance: Scott drew his own bear, while this one arrives licensed from a franchise heading into its 45th year.

The bears began as paintings. Illustrator Elena Kucharik painted them in 1981 for cards from American Greetings, the Care Bears became plush toys in 1983, and a television series ran from 1985 to 1988, alongside three feature films released between 1985 and 1987. More than 40 million of the toys sold between 1983 and 1987. Cloudco itself started life as Those Characters From Cleveland, the American Greetings character division that developed the bears in the first place.
Announcing the adidas tie-up, Cloudco’s head of global licensing, Robert Prinzo, said the two brands share “a rare ability to connect across generations.” The collection spans adult and kids’ footwear, apparel, and accessories, with a spring/summer 2027 follow-up planned for the Care Bears’ 45th anniversary year. Kids’ pairs get Share Bear charms and Superstars with light-up soles, while the apparel runs from hooded cardigans with bear ears to denim carrying Care-A-Lot patches.
Ownership has shifted since the shoes were designed. On June 30, 2026, Authentic Brands Group signed a definitive agreement to buy the Care Bears intellectual property, a deal it has since closed. Authentic counts more than 100 bears in the franchise and more than $12 billion in lifetime retail sales, and plans to extend it through new storytelling and live experiences. The move carries a small irony for adidas: Authentic also owns Reebok, the brand adidas sold to it in a deal completed in 2022.

Japan has seen these slides before. A Japan market release notice reported the Care Bears Adilette set going on sale through adidas’s Japanese online store in mid-July, and the pink pair has since been listed through atmos at ¥11,000 in women’s sizes from 22.5 to 25.5 cm. The Japanese product copy tracks adidas’s global wording closely, down to the Trefoil on one footbed and the belly logo on the other. The October 15 date attached to the blue KH9954 pair has not been matched by a separate adidas Japan announcement, which leaves open whether it marks a restock, a wider retail rollout, or a first in-store window for this colorway.
