In December 2024, atmos Tokyo and New Balance unveiled the 1906D “Deep Sea,” a connective sneaker inspired by the ocean’s profound depths. This partnership continues their tradition of innovative designs, following previous successful collaborations.

Design Inspiration and Aesthetics

The “Deep Sea” edition of the New Balance 1906D features a rich palette of navy and blue hues, emulating the gradient descent into the ocean’s abyss. The sneaker’s base is constructed with deep navy mesh, overlaid with jagged-edge suede panels in varying shades of blue, creating a layered, textured appearance reminiscent of underwater landscapes. Black accents on the vamp, laces, tongue, upper eyestay, and TPU heel counter provide contrast, while the midfoot’s white-and-black ‘N’ logo is integrated with nylon lace loops for added detail. The design is completed with a blacked-out midsole and matching outsole, enhancing the sneaker’s sleek, aquatic theme.

Release Details

The atmos x New Balance 1906D “Deep Sea” is slated for release in December 2024, available through atmos Tokyo’s online and physical stores. While the exact retail price has not been disclosed, the sneaker is expected to be a Japan-exclusive release, aligning with atmos’s typical distribution strategy.

Historical Context of the 1906D Model

The New Balance 1906D, part of the brand’s “Protection Pack,” is known for its “worn relic” design inspiration, featuring deconstructed aesthetics and premium materials. The model has seen various iterations since its introduction, with the “Deep Sea” colorway adding a fresh, oceanic perspective to its lineage.
