Bone Pattern series. London, Zurich, Boston Smooth Black. Dual 1976 anniversary. FW26 is a calendar guess, not a SKU.

BEAMS is fifty in 2026. Birkenstock’s Boston is fifty in the same year. The shop opened in Harajuku in 1976 as American Life Shop Beams. The clog launched in 1976 as a closed-toe mule on the cork-latex bed. In March they used that coincidence as a brief. The fourth Bone Pattern pair, Boston “BONE PATTERN” Smooth Black, previewed 20 March at BEAMS Harajuku and BEAMS BOY Harajuku, then went nationwide and online 22 March. ¥28,600 including tax. Sizes 39 to 46 on the main label, 35 to 38 on BEAMS BOY. Product numbers on store blogs: 11-33-0459-271 and 13-33-0200-271.

That is the last official chapter. As of 4 September 2026, beams.co.jp has not published a fall/winter Bone Pattern lookbook, date, or article number the way it did on 17 March for the Boston. Treat forum model names as rumor.

Birkenstock’s outsole has long used a repeating scalloped traction motif people call the bone pattern. BEAMS asked that geometry to leave the ground and sit on the upper. From ten meters it is a Birk. From two meters it is a special order.

Previous official chapters:

London Bone Pattern. Closed toe. Taupe. Cooler-month timing. About ¥25,300. Often named as the first chapter people noticed.

Zurich Bone Pattern Black. Two-strap slide. Motif on the midfoot strap and, on some listings, across the upper. EVA outsole. Dual logos on the footbed. Early June 2025 at Harajuku, label stores, official shop. ¥25,300 in contemporary reports. A taupe Zurich Bone Pattern remains on beams.co.jp at ¥23,100 in some current cards.

Boston Bone Pattern Smooth Black. March 2026. Smooth leather instead of the usual suede. Full-upper emboss. Co-branded footbed. Orange BEAMS box. ¥28,600. The material jump is what changed the talk. Suede Bostons are already a default. Smooth black with a deep stamp made the clog read closer to a dress mule without leaving the bed that sells the shoe.

actual

In BEAMS language, 別注 is not a new last. It is a rewrite of a factory model: leather, tint, a motif the mothership would not put on the upper by itself, dual branding on the footbed, orange box. Production stays German. Cork-latex bed, outsole geometry, last: Birkenstock.

That limit is why the series works on a BEAMS floor. Wide trousers, washed denim, a chore coat. Obviously not the pair at a department-store counter. Staff blogs keep flagging the orange box as part of the object. You do not get a generic brown carton.

The March Boston already answers whether a clog works after August. Store styling put it with cropped trousers and thick socks, with a suit pant and no sock, with military and work pieces. Smooth leather is why it does not look like a garden shoe next to wool.

Sizing is last-specific. Staff notes on the Smooth Black recommended trying 41 and 42 if you sit between Nike and New Balance lengths. The bed can feel short until it breaks in. Narrow versus regular depends on the model. Zurich chapters mixed width by size run.

Price band on recent chapters: ¥23,100 to ¥28,600 including tax. A lined or heavier-leather fall piece, if it exists later, would sit at the top of that band or a step above. Still below 1774 and designer Bostons. Channels have been the same every time: Harajuku first, then BEAMS and BEAMS BOY doors (some stores excluded), then beams.co.jp. Secondary on earlier Bone Pattern pairs has not gone wild. The Smooth Black moved in popular sizes because it was anniversary and a material upgrade at once.

The series is not locked to one season. London was a closed cooler-weather toe. Zurich was a summer slide. Boston landed in late March as a year-round clog.

A fall chapter would sit in a crowded 50th-year calendar. Early September already has Stone Island × BEAMS (jacket, pants, tee, garment dye and crazy pattern, listed for 5 September), PF Flyers × BEAMS PLUS Grounder Boots, UGG for Ray BEAMS on 3 September. Footwear buyers still have room for a Birk because this line has its own audience: people who own a standard Boston and want the version that only exists at BEAMS.

If a fifth chapter follows the internal logic, it would need a gorm that takes socks and weight (Boston and London already do; Arizona is the unused two-strap; a shearling Boston would be the commercial move). A material shift, not only a reprint of Smooth Black. The bone stamp still on the upper, not demoted to a heel tab. The same retail ritual.

None of that is confirmed. Watch beams.co.jp and the Harajuku staff blogs. That is where every chapter of this series has started. Until a product number appears, the honest status is: the partner is active, the anniversary year is not over, and the Bone Pattern idea still has unused sil. That is enough to keep a size in mind. It is not enough to print a fall SKU.
