A flight jacket with an original orange lining. WINDSTOPPER by GORE-TEX LABS. Khaki or black. RHC doors, Saturday 3 October.

The tell is the lining. Goldwin and RHC Ron Herman cut an MA-1 and put an original orange inside it. That orange is the oldest joke in the flight-jacket book: a high-view field if a pilot went down. Here it is a color decision. The shell is WINDSTOPPER by GORE-TEX LABS. Wind stays out. Vapor can leave. The jacket is described as insulated enough to hold heat and light enough that the wear is not a project.

Goldwin for RHC MA-1 Jacket. Khaki and black. Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4. ¥97,900 tax in. Saturday 3 October 2026 at RHC Ron Herman stores and Ron Herman “R” stores. Inquiry line 0120-983-781.

Signal. What happened: Goldwin and RHC scheduled an MA-1 special order for 3 October. Exact object: Goldwin for RHC MA-1 Jacket in WINDSTOPPER by GORE-TEX LABS with original orange lining, khaki or black, sizes 1–4, ¥97,900. When and where: RHC Ron Herman and Ron Herman “R” doors, Japan. Source: RHC-facing announcement copy republished 24 September 2026. Why it matters: a Toyama ski house and a California-born Japan store put the rescue color back under a bomber that is built like weather cloth, not surplus nylon.

Tosaku Nishida started making meriyasu, knitted sundries, in 1950 in Oyabe, Toyama. In 1951 the works became Tsuzawa Meriyasu Seizosho, a small mill next to the family house. Underwear and socks first. Then baseball stockings, because ordinary knit underwear was a race to the bottom and team kit still paid for stitch and dye. Offices opened in Osaka and Tokyo. The name Goldwin arrived with the move of head office to Oyabe in the early sixties. Ski sweaters followed, using the same knitting intel on a slope instead of a diamond.

That path is the reason a Goldwin MA-1 is not a costume bomber. The company spent decades turning knit and later laminate into clothing that has to work when the weather changes mid-run. Dedication to Detail is the house phrase. Ski federations and national teams have worn the results. The same factory culture later became the Japanese home of The North Face, which is a different brand on the same books. This jacket is not TNF. It is Goldwin’s own name, cut for a store that sells California ease to Japanese weekdays.

WINDSTOPPER by GORE-TEX LABS is the current weather sentence. Windproof. Moisture-permeable. The announcement does not publish a denier, a fill weight, or a pocket map. What it does say is that MA-1 details are present and that the lining color is original orange, chased for a “real” flight-jacket face. Lightweight and insulated at once is the wear claim. Believe the laminate. Wait for the hangtag on fill.

Ron Herman was a Fred Segal buyer before he put his name on 8100 Melrose in 1976. Six hundred square feet at the start. Denim as sportswear, not workwear. Juicy and Earl and a long list of California names passed through that counter. Japan arrived in 2009, when Sazaby League took the exclusive license and opened Sendagaya. RHC Ron Herman opened in 2013 as a Japan-only concept: American fashion, sport, and art at a daily volume, less museum boutique than a room you can use on a Tuesday.

Special orders are how RHC talks. Goldwin has already been through that door. A soutien-collar coat in three-layer GORE-TEX in 2023. A down shirt jacket. A digital-camo shell set in 2025. An insulation jacket in water-repellent wool with marine-plastic fill in November 2025, ¥91,300. A smart merino twill set in February 2026. The MA-1 is the next object in that sequence: military silhouette, technical face, store color story.

Alpha has made MA-1s for RHC before, including a reversible women’s cut. This is not that jacket. Different factory, different laminate, different price band. Do not stack them.

What RHC wants from Goldwin is the thing Goldwin already knows how to do: a shell that behaves in weather, cut so it can stand in Minato-Mirai or Sendagaya without looking like pit-lane kit. What Goldwin wants from RHC is a room that will sell that shell to people who do not need a lift ticket.

scope

The MA-1 is a mid-century flight jacket. Nylon. Knit collar, cuffs, hem. Zip. Orange lining as a signal. It left the flight line and became a city bomber because the shape already worked over a shirt. Every fashion MA-1 since then has been an argument about how much of that surplus grammar to keep.

Goldwin keeps the orange and the fine details the announcement will not list one by one. The argument is the cloth. WINDSTOPPER is not period nylon. It is a lab product that treats wind as the problem and sweat as a fact. On a ski slope that logic is obvious. On a Saturday in October it is how a bomber avoids becoming a plastic bag.

Khaki and black are the two faces. Khaki is the closer cousin to sage flight nylon. Black is the city default. Four sizes, numbered 1 through 4, the same scale Goldwin-for-RHC has used on the wool set and the insulation jacket. That numbering is not S-M-L. Try it on. The last will not apologize.

¥97,900 sits above the November insulation jacket and below the 2023 soutien coat. The ticket is the laminate and the special-order run, not a surplus find.

extend

3 October is a Saturday. RHC Ron Herman stores and Ron Herman “R” stores. The announcement that named the jacket did not, in the version captured here, add the online-noon line that accompanied the insulation jacket and the merino set. Treat e-com as unconfirmed until rhc.ronherman.jp says so. Prior Goldwin-for-RHC drops often opened the cart at noon the same day. That is pattern, not a promise for this SKU.

Doors that have carried the line before include RHC Minato-Mirai, Osaka, Shichirigahama, Toyosu, Kawasaki, Nagoya, Kumamoto, Funabashi, and “R” rooms in Sendagaya, Futakotamagawa, Tsujido, Kyoto, Fukuoka. Confirm stock on the morning. Special-order Goldwin at RHC does not restock like a core polo.

What you cannot know from the brief is hand feel, true weight, whether the orange shows at the zip, whether a utility pocket sits on the sleeve the way a textbook MA-1 does. Those answers live on the hanger. The published object is already enough to place: a Toyama weather house, a Melrose name grown in Japan, a flight jacket whose lining is the oldest part of the story and whose face is new laminate.

Nishida’s mill made stockings because underwear was too cheap to care about stitch. Seventy-five years later the stitch is a bomber with a rescue color inside. RHC puts it on a Saturday rail. That is the pair.
