Black leather, suede at the heel, a thunderbolt pressed into the back and a thin line of blue along the sole: ROA’s signature boot gets the fragment treatment on October 1.

ROA’s Andreas has carried a lot of other people’s ideas over the years. Our Legacy WORK SHOP has rebuilt it in patina-prone leather, ALYX and Stüssy coated a ROA-made boot in hand-applied fake mud, and ROA itself has dipped the Andreas in rubber and hung silver charms off its laces. The newest version comes from fragment design, and it is the quietest of the lot, the kind of collaboration you would only clock from behind.

Signal. What happened: ROA and fragment design have produced a collect version of the Andreas boot, scheduled for an overseas release on October 1, 2026. Exact object: FRAGMENT x ROA “Andreas Boots,” style code YBUW1313LE64 MTY0001, a black leather and suede upper on a Vibram outsole. When and where: October 1, 2026, outside Japan, at €590; named retailers, US pricing and a Japanese release date have not been confirmed. Source: a Japan market release notice, backed by first-look product photography that began circulating in early September. Why it matters: it is the first time fragment and ROA have worked together since the ALYX capsule of late 2016, and this time Hiroshi Fujiwara’s mark lands on ROA’s best-known model rather than on a third party’s boot. Earlier: a UNION x Nike Dunk Low SP coverage touched on fragment’s February 2026 Air Jordan 1 project with Union LA, part of a busy footwear year for Fujiwara’s label.

The design reads as subtraction. The upper is black throughout, leather across the body with suede worked into the heel counter. A black rubber wrap covers the toe box, and metal hooks run up the top half of the lacing, the same hiking-boot hardware ROA uses on its inline pairs. ROA’s mountain-peak logo sits on the tongue and the toe.

fragment’s contribution is almost entirely at the back. The label’s thunderbolt is debossed into the heel rather than printed or stitched, so it only shows when light catches the leather. Below it, a thin stripe of fragment’s familiar blue runs along the sole, the single spot of color on the shoe apart from the yellow Vibram badge underfoot.

ROA was founded in 2015, the product of a meeting between the creative team at Italian retailer Slam Jam and technical footwear designer Maurizio Quaglia. The brand takes its name from Forcella della Roa, a hiking spot in the Dolomites, and its logo is a stylized drawing of that peak.

The Andreas is the model ROA describes as its sig hybrid boot. The inline version pairs a wax-impregnated Kudu leather exterior with the interior comfort of an athletic shoe, a custom Vibram Megagrip sole for slippery ground and a rubberized toe cap. It is made in Italy. The Andreas has also become ROA’s most reliable canvas: across seasons it has appeared in ripstop nylon, rough suede, checkerboard, pink and rubber-dipped grey.

Whether the fragment pair uses the same Kudu leather as the inline black boot, or where it is manufactured, has not been stated in anything published so far.

The two labels first crossed paths through a third. In November 2016, fragment and ALYX, the label Matthew Williams would later rename 1017 ALYX 9SM, rel a ten-piece capsule drawing on skateboarding, hip-hop and punk. Alongside a folding “Natural Order” tee and a reversible satin bomber, it included a pair of hiking boots.

Those boots, sold as the White Fragment Edition ROA hiking boot, were ankle-high white leather with a rubber toe trim, antique silver hardware and a yellow Vibram logo on the sole, and they shipped with spare checkered laces. The capsule launched at Fujiwara’s then-flagship The Parking Ginza in Tokyo and a handful of global stockists including Union LA and Slam Jam.

Williams has said he met Fujiwara at a Paris showroom through a mutual friend, and that the collide grew out of a shared interest in skate and punk culture. ROA kept working with Williams afterward, most visibly on the mud-treated ALYX x Stüssy boot of 2019, and went on to partner with names like Brain Dead.

The Andreas collide most comparable in tone is Our Legacy WORK SHOP’s. The Swedish label’s first version retailed at £490 in late 2021, and its third capsule with ROA, released in December 2024, rebuilt the boot from Vacchetta leather offcuts sourced from Sweden’s Tärnsjö Garveri, finished in Italy with hairy suede overlays.

Both treat the Andreas as a material exercise. The fragment edition takes a more Fujiwara route, leaving the shape and the materials almost untouched and letting a single embossed symbol and a stripe of blue carry the merge. That approach is consistent with fragment’s footwear record, where the label has tended to change as little as possible on silhouettes it respects.

It also arrives in a crowded year for the label’s shoes. February brought the fragment design x Union LA x Air Jordan 1 High OG in Varsity Red and Sport Royal, and Fujiwara has since teased a fragment take on Nike’s Mind 002 with a Flyknit upper. Set against those, the Andreas is the outlier: a made-for-mountains boot from a small Italian label rather than a performance or basketball model from Nike. It is also the only one of the three where fragment is returning to a partner it first met through somebody else’s collection.

At €590, the boot sits at the top of the Andreas’s collaborative price range so far. No yen price, Japanese stockist list or Japanese release date had been published at the time of writing, and the October 1 date applies to overseas markets only.

Nearly ten years after the white ALYX pair, the facts on the new one fit on a shoebox label: black, €590, October 1.
