MM6 Spring Summer 2027 Reconsiders How Clothes Sit

MM6 Maison Margiela showed Spring Summer 2027 in Milan with a question that is almost too plain: what happens if the unwritten instructions for wearing a shirt, a skirt, a collar, a bag, a sandal are treated as optional. Womenswear and menswear keep the archetypes visible. The garment is still a shirt when it is pulled down as a skirt. It is still a flip-flop when it has six toes or six soles.

The house brief matches what walked. Shirts become skirts. Skirts become dresses. Collars and button plackets leave the center line. Proportions change. Construction simplifies so a piece can be worn more than one way. Accessor follow: familiar objects change job depending on how they are held. The Havaianas convince uses the number six as the recur mech, the line’s own numeral turned into toes and stacked rubber.

Show notes and reviews place the presentation in a black-and-white setting at the Borsa Italiana. A shirt folded into a square can be worn as a dress. A sweater worn as a skirt picks up volume from a studio piece nicknamed a hip-paulette, an épaulette moved to the hip. MM6’s useful trick is refusal to retire the noun. A shirt that becomes a dress is still cut like a shirt. Buttons and a collar remain, even when the hem is doing skirt work. That is different from making a dress that quotes a shirt. The wearer is asked to complete the garment by choosing an entrance: head through the collar as usual, or body through a new aperture.

Off-center plackets on menswear do less violence and more tilt. A suit that still reads as a suit, with the closure walked to the side, is a desk object that photographs as a mistake until it is not. Biker jackets with the same lateral shift keep the hardware vocabulary and move the zip. Simplified construction, in the brief, is what keeps these pieces from becoming costume. If a shirt-dress needs a stylist to stay on, the experiment failed.

May 2027 is the reported shop date for the collab. Top 6Layers as runway-only is a second report. Until Havaianas and MM6 publish a lookbook with SKUs, treat 6Toe as the likely commercial pair and 6Layers as the show monument. A six-high stack will not commute. A six-toe slim might.

No euro list. No wholesale date beyond the May rumor for rubber. No confirmation that every look is production. MM6 seasons often leave the extreme piece in the show and sell the off-center shirt. That split is likely again.
