In the mid of Kyoto’s historic Gion district, where centuries-old machiya townhouses whisper tales of tradition, THE EYEVAN Kyoto Gion marks a significant milestone. Opened on May 25, 2021, the specialty store—home to EYEVAN Inc.’s full lineup of view eyewear brands—celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2026 with exclusive 10 eyevan limited editions and a rare trunk show featuring designer Hirotaka Nakagawa. This event beautifully encapsulates the brand’s ethos: bridging the precision of Sabae’s eyewear manufacturing with Kyoto’s refined artisanal spirit.

For connoisseurs of Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary design, this anniversary represents more than a birthday—it’s a testament to how modern luxury eyewear can honor cultural roots while pushing aesthetic boundaries.

Nestled at 570-125 Giommachi Minamigawa, Higashiyama-ku, THE EYEVAN Kyoto Gion occupies a striking three-story machiya that seamlessly blends with Gion’s preserved Edo-period architecture. The store serves as a flagship showcasing EYEVAN, EYEVAN 7285, 10 eyevan, Eyevol, and more under one roof. Its opening in 2021 marked a pivotal expansion for EYEVAN Inc., creating a dedicated space to collaborate with Kyoto artisans on eyewear-related products while promoting Sabae-made excellence globally.

The interior invites quiet contemplation: refined displays highlight the tactile beauty of titanium, celluloid, and precious materials. Staff uniforms and thoughtful details reinforce a sense of cultural immersion. Over five years, it has become a pilgrimage site for those seeking not just vision correction, but objects of wearable art that embody “beautiful tools.”

flow

To express gratitude to patrons, the anniversary features two standout elements launching around mid-June 2026:

  • 10 eyevan Trunk Show (June 13–14, 2026): Over 150 rare and archival pieces from the 10 eyevan collection will be available, many not typically in stores. Designer Hirotaka Nakagawa will be present (12:00–19:00) for direct consultations, sharing insights into his meticulous process. Advance reservations via THE EYEVAN’s Instagram DM are recommended to manage crowds; walk-ins possible if space allows. The ground floor remains open as usual.
  • 5th Anniversary Limited Model: A highlight is the Kyoto Gion exclusive colorway of the iconic aviator-inspired no.10 frame from 10 eyevan—the brand’s first with a three-bridge design. Titled something like “MAT STAR GOLD,” it features refined Star Gold plating hand-matted by artisans for a unique, tranquil-yet-present texture. It harmonizes with signature beta-titanium Torx screws.

Available in two sizes for broad appeal (unisex), pricing reflects its exclusivity: approximately ¥117,700 standard, with premium options including K18 gold end tips (¥271,700) or “NIGHT LENS” variants (¥139,700). Each comes with a special lacquered chestnut wood case, fusing Sabae precision with Kyoto lacquer traditions.

scope

Launched in 2017, 10 eyevan distills eyewear to its essence—composed of ten special parts using premium materials like titanium, silver, gold, and pearls. Under Nakagawa’s view, each frame transcends utility to become a sculptural object. The brand’s collision with Kyoto artisans (evident in ongoing EYEVAN × KYOTO projects) underscore a commitment to cross-regional craftsmanship that evolves heritage without compromising innovation.

This anniversary release continues that dialogue, celebrating how eyewear can bridge functionality, fashion, and culture narrative—much like the store itself.
