Baghdad’s First Skatepark: A Milestone for Youth Culture and Recreation

On February 1st, Baghdad opened its first-ever skatepark, marking a significant milestone for youth culture and recreational spaces in Iraq. The project, a collaboration between organizations from Italy, Iraq, and Belgium, took five years to come to fruition. Located at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the city center, the skatepark will be free-of-charge and accessible to the public.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by foreign diplomats, sports officials, and young athletes, reflecting the strong international support for this initiative. The project was spearheaded by Make Life Skate Life, a Belgian-American charity that has built similar facilities in Morocco, India, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
