DRIFT

Laka’s Perfect Twin Lip paired a fixing matte tint with a clear gloss in one case, and buyers cleared it out in Japan, then again in Korea, within hours.

Korean beauty brand Laka built its name on lip stains and glosses with a fruit forward, almost juice like finish, the kind of product line that leans on sheer, buildable hue rather than heavy pigment. Its newest rel breaks from that formula in a literal sense. The Perfect Twin Lip is a dual ended lip product that houses a tincture fixing lacquer on one end and a clear, glass like gloss on the other, sold as a single 8.9 gram case rather than two separate tubes a buyer would otherwise carry independently. It did not arrive on hush. By the time it reached its home market, the product had already built a follow an ocean away, and that head start shaped how the domestic launch play out.

Perfect Twin Lip first reached buyers through a Japan pre launch, ahead of any formal release in Korea. Reaction there was immediate, with the product circulating heavily across social feeds and building the kind of demand that typically drags a brand’s domestic release forward rather than the reverse. Korean coverage of the launch describes requests for a local release piling up specifically because of what buyers had already seen out of Japan, an unusual sequence for a Korean beauty brand selling primarily to a Korean audience.

That demand carried through to the product’s actual Korean debut. Pre orders opened ahead of the official May 22, 2026 launch and sold out within three hours, according to Korean reporting on the release. The shade drawing the most attention out of the gate was 901 True Peach, a soft, cool leaning peach nude that reportedly sold out more than once in the weeks following launch. Laka opened the shoe, so to speak, across three channels at once: its own official online store, a pop up at its Seongsu flagship in Seoul, and Olive Young, Korea’s dominant health and beauty retail chain, all going live the same day with a two plus one launch promotion.

The format is where the product earns its name. One end holds what Laka calls its Blur Fixing Texture, a velvety matte lip lacquer built to sit close to the lip and lock the pigment in place without settling into fine lines. The opposite end holds a Top Coat Gloss, a transparent, high shine formula meant to go over the fixed color rather than replace it. Laka’s own application guidance treats the two steps as sequential rather than optional: apply the matte side first, let it set for roughly a minute so the hue fixes properly, then layer the gloss over it for shine and added wear time. Skipping straight to the gloss, or apply both without the pause, defeats the point of the format.

That sequence is the actual innovation here, more than either formula on its own. Gloss applied directly over an unset lip color is a familiar problem: the shine looks good for a few minutes before the base color starts to move, thin out, or smear at the edges. Laka’s answer is to separate the two jobs entirely, asking the matte side to do the work of fixing pigment before the gloss is ever introduced. The brand’s own specifications list 4.7 grams of color and 4.2 grams of gloss inside the single case, position the product less as one lipstick and more as two complementary formulas that happen to share a shell.

scope

Perfect Twin Lip launched with ten total shades, running from soft nudes through to a deep cherry red: 901 True Peach, 902 Busy Coral, 903 Nude Odd, 904 City Pink, 905 Rosy High, 906 Salty Fig, 907 Gentle Rose, 908 In Cafeine, 909 Guilty Mauve, and 910 Boss Cherry. Laka’s own marketing has grouped several of the shades into suggested pairings by undertone, warm, cool, and neutral, aimed at buyers choosing between two colors rather than committing to one. Reviewers who tested the range consistent noted that the shades read differently once applied than they appear in the tube, with the payoff hue running slightly deeper and more saturated than the cap tint suggests, a detail that shows up repeatedly across independent swatch coverage of the line.

Perfect Twin Lip retails in Korea for 22,000 won at full price, with Olive Young running a launch week promotion that dropped the price as low as 16,500 won through the end of May. The product has since moved well past its initial three channel debut. Olive Young’s global storefront now lists the full ten shade range for international ship, and the product has landed on additional platforms including Amazon, YesStyle, StyleKorean, and Beauty Box Korea, each carrying the same 4.7 gram plus 4.2 gram format under the Perfect Twin Lip name. For a product that started as a Japan only preview, the spread across major K beauty retail channels within a few months points to a rel that outgrew its original market almost immediately, and the demand shows little sign of settling given how frequent individual shades have gone in and out of stock since the May launch.
