Jennie, renowned for her role in BLACKPINK, has unveiled her debut solo album, ‘Ruby’, marking a significant milestone in her musical journey. This release not only showcases her versatility but also her evolution as an independent artist.

Released on March 7, 2025, ‘Ruby’ is a 15-track collection that blends genres such as pop, hip-hop, and R&B. The album is predominantly in English, reflecting Jennie’s intent to connect with a global audience.

Notably, this project is her first solo endeavor since departing from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023, now under her own label, Odd Atelier, in collaboration with Columbia Records.

• Childish Gambino: Their joint track, “Damn Right,” delves into nostalgic R&B vibes, blending both artists’ unique styles. 

• Doechii: On “ExtraL,” Jennie teams up with Doechii to deliver assertive themes and dynamic performances.

• Dominic Fike: “Love Hangover” explores the complexities of tumultuous relationships, highlighting Jennie’s vocal versatility. 

• Dua Lipa: The track “Handlebars” launches straight into the chorus, making it perfect for TikTok. 

• Kali Uchis: She contributes to the nostalgic R&B track “Damn Right,” alongside Childish Gambino.

Production Details

Jennie collaborated with an eclectic team of producers, including Diplo, El Guincho, and Mike Will Made It. The majority of the album was recorded in Los Angeles, where Jennie built a new creative network, immersing herself in sessions with various producers and writers to find her unique sound. 

Public and Critical Reception

Critically, ‘Ruby’ has been praised for its eclectic sound and Jennie’s artistic growth. The Associated Press described the album as “a kaleidoscope of different sounds for Jennie, full of incongruous, polished pleasures.” However, some critiques mention that while the songs are strong and diverse, they may not be wholly distinctive. 

Chart Performance and Streaming Statistics

Prior to its release, ‘Ruby’ accumulated over 450,000 global pre-orders, reflecting significant anticipation.

Promotion and Live Performances

To promote ‘Ruby,’ Jennie has announced “The Ruby Experience” tour, with performances scheduled in Los Angeles, New York, and Seoul between March 6 and 15. She is also set to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 13 and 20.
