Kaicrewsade’s new album RAINBOW_ arrived on October 14, and its second track pulls in Chicago drummer and singer Luke Titus.
Kaicrewsade put out RAINBOW_, his new ten-track album, on October 14, after announcing the date on X at the end of September. On release day he posted that the record now belonged to his listeners and asked them to take care of it. Second on the tracklist is “#SWAG SURF,” featuring Luke Titus, the first of two appearances the Chicago drummer and singer makes on the album. Like every title on RAINBOW_, it carries a tail of four asterisks on the official listings.
Signal. What happened: Chicago rapper Kaicrewsade released his album RAINBOW_ on October 14, 2026, with “#SWAG SURF” featuring Luke Titus as its second track. Exact object: “#SWAG SURF” (officially styled with four trailing asterisks), Kaicrewsade featuring Luke Titus, track two of the ten-track RAINBOW_. When and where: out now on Spotify and other streaming services. Source: the album’s Spotify listing and Kaicrewsade’s own release-day post on X. Why it matters: it pairs two artists from Chicago’s live-band, jazz-rooted rap and R&B scene on a record where eight of ten tracks carry a guest, and Titus returns on “EEEEEE,” one of only two guests to appear twice. Earlier DRIFT: none; this is the first DRIFT coverage of either artist.
lean
The guest list leans hard on Chicago. Kari Faux and Lance Skiiiwalker share “$DOOWOPZ,” Joseph Chilliams, theMIND and Aija Cymone crowd onto “BOPDAT!,” Menace4hire turns up on “KRIB FREESTYLE,” Popstar Benny on “PEAK,” and monte booker closes the record on “P0 PIMPIN.” Aija Cymone is the other guest who appears twice, returning on “A’s SONG.” The album’s credited producers include Vooo, Ari Burns, Jake Victor, Gabriel Alston and Titus himself.
That crowded credits sheet is how Kaicrewsade has always worked. Raised on Chicago’s West Side, he has spent the last two years making records that sound like rooms full of musicians. His 2024 album Yvette blended soul and jazz into unhurried grooves, and he told South Side Weekly he made it as a soundtrack for Chicago, with only Chicago artists featured. The 2025 follow-up, Joint4u!, was recorded mostly in Los Angeles and aimed, by his own account, at something deliberately chaotic. A Chicago Reader preview earlier this year singled out how readily he steps away from the mic to let his collaborators take over. This fall he has also been on the road, opening dates on Ovrkast’s Still Striking Tour.

Titus is a Chicago-born drummer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who emerged from the band Woo Parkbefore going solo. His own records, from 2017’s Aside of Love and 2020’s Plasma to 2025’s psych-tinted From What Was Will Grow a Flower, keep jazz at the core while shed into indie rock, hip-hop, R&B and electronic music. His most recent rel, the EP Three Songs, arrived in June as a quintet session with Brian Sanborn, Lenard Simpson, Julius Tucker and Parker Grogan.

He is also one of the shh connective threads in the city’s music. Titus holds songwriting credits across Ravyn Lenae’s catalog, including “Skin Tight” with Steve Lacy, is credited on “Cameo” from her 2022 debut Hypnos, and featured on Kiefer’s 2023 track “Head Trip.” Earlier this year he also turned up alongside Flanafi on a live trio recording.
The title points at the swag surf, the side-to-side group huddle that grew out of the 2009 rap hit “Swag Surfin'” and has since spread from house parties to football stadiums, weddings and graduations. On RAINBOW_, Titus arrives near the top of the record and returns five tracks later on “EEEEEE,” the only voice besides Aija Cymone that Kaicrewsade brings back for a second turn.
