A cream toned XT-Whisper colorway drops September 11, pitched as a Japan exclusive even though it’s already live on Salomon’s own global site.

Style code L49237300 belongs to a black upper laced with almond milk overlays and Ftw Silver hardware, the newest colorway in Salomon‘s ongoing XT-Whisper rotation. A Japan market release notice pegs the pair to a September 11, 2026 launch and describes it as limited to domestic sales channels, the kind of framing that usually signals a Japan-only drop reserved for local handling stores.

That framing doesn’t hold up against Salomon’s own storefront. The exact Black/Almond Milk/Ftw Silver colorway is already listed for $145 on Salomon’s US site, sized M4/W5 through M13/W14, and the same SKU turns up at TheDoubleF, Undefeated, and Flatspot, none of which are Japan-based retailers. Whatever the domestic-channel language is meant to convey, it isn’t sole access to this particular colorway. It’s one of eleven XT-Whisper options currently live on Salomon’s site, sitting alongside a black-on-black pair, a tradewinds and black mix, and several ivory-toned versions, which makes this drop a routine restock of an already broad lineup rather than a standout limited release. The line runs in whole sizes only, with Salomon directing half-size shoppers to size up rather than down. It’s a pattern that’s shown up before with Salomon’s Japan-facing press material, where a colorway framed as exclusive turns out to already be sitting on international shelves under a different marketing wrapper.

built

The construction leans on the same toolkit Salomon has used across its recent Icons lineup. A quickLACE pull-cord system handles one-motion tightening through an integrated lace pocket built into the tongue, while an agileCHASSIS system pairs with an EnergyCell midsole for stability and dampening underfoot. A diecut OrthoLite sockliner is shaped to the actual footbed rather than dropped in as a flat insert, and a protective toecap guards the front of the shoe.

The upper mixes textile and synthetic paneling with anti-debris and 3D mesh, wrapped in the label’s wavy sensiFIT overlay for a snug hold running from midsole to lace. Inside, a 100 percent polyester textile lining does the everyday comfort work. A Mud contaGRIP outsole with chevron lugs handles traction, a pattern built for loose dirt and soft ground rather than pavement, even if most pairs will spend their working life on the latter. Salomon lists the shoe at an 11mm drop and roughly 10 ounces per unit, numbers that sit closer to a lightweight trail shoe than a bulky lifestyle sneaker despite the fashion-forward colorway and the $145 price tag, which lands below most of Salomon’s more technical trail models.

transition

XT-Whisper isn’t a new name. Salomon’s own product copy traces it back to 2009, when it launched as the women’s version of the XT Hawk trail runner, built to answer what the brand has described as a gap in performance footwear made specifically for women. The silhouette sat dormant for over a decade before Salomon pulled it back out of the archive and remastered it into something closer to a lifestyle sneaker than a race-day tool.

The redesign swapped the model’s original hard-lined, masculine profile for a rounder, softer one, a shift Salomon frames as staying true to the shoe’s performance legacy while broadening its appeal across genders. That kind of archive revival is familiar territory for the brand. Salomon was founded in 1947 by François Salomon in Annecy, in the French Alps, starting as a workshop producing metal edges for skis before expanding into bindings, boots, and eventually trail running shoes. The company passed through Adidas in the late 1990s before Amer Sports acquired it in 2005, and it was the 2013 debut of the XT-6, another archive-born trail shoe, that first pulled Salomon out of specialty running shops and onto Paris sidewalks. A single Instagram post from Rihanna in 2019 helped push that momentum further, and her 2023 Super Bowl halftime appearance in a pair of MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Lows turned the brand into a recognizable name well outside the trail running world it built its reputation in. Today Salomon operates in dozens of countries, which is part of why a single Japan-facing press release describing a colorway as domestic-only reads more like local marketing language than an actual restriction.

scope

The current XT-Whisper push is fronted by Dina Ayada, a Belgian-Moroccan singer and rapper from Antwerp who left law school behind after her 2022 freestyle “Miles Away” went viral. The single led to a major-label deal and co-signs from artists including Kanye West, Playboi Carti, and French Montana. Two EPs, Superstar in 2023 and The Script in 2024, and a run of festival dates followed, before Ayada rel her debut album IDENTITY in January 2026, executive produced by Gunna, who also appears on the standout track “No Rush.” Along the way she’s landed a spot on Dazed’s Dazed 100 MENA list, a cover for L’Officiel Belgium, and festival sets at Rolling Loud Thailand, Wireless Festival Middle East, and Rolling Loud Europe.

Salomon’s own campaign copy leans on Ayada’s law-school-to-studio arc to sell the shoe’s tagline, “style whispers, personality echoes,” framing the release around individuality and a refusal to follow convention. Whether that messaging reaches most buyers of a $145 pair in Black, Almond Milk, and Ftw Silver is beside the point. What’s confirmed is the release itself: a unisex shoe built on a sixteen-year-old silhouette, sized M4/W5 through M13/W14, going live everywhere Salomon already sells shoes on September 11, regardless of what any single market’s release notice claims about who gets first access.
