Designed for Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection opened for preorder late August. OG Green plastic, partner gear from Razer, 8BitDo, Backbone, GameSir, PowerA.

Microsoft is marking twenty-five years of Xbox by making the past a little more transparent. Limited accessories. Familiar green glow on modern gear. Translucent shells that recall a stretch of consumer electronics when seen the board inside the object was part of the pleasure.

The Designed for Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection opened for preorder in late August, announce on Xbox Wire by Anna Vo on the 25th. Hardware from Razer, 8BitDo, Backbone, GameSir, and PowerA. Not a pile of first-party console skins. PC peripherals. Mobile controllers. Audio. A charging dock. A bag.

Much of it wear what Xbox calls OG Green. That phrase connects the new plastic to a view scope people date to the early years, even if the first North American machine, November 2001, arrived as a black slab with a jewel. The green that stuck in memory came through special hardware, the translucent Halo Xbox among them. Seeing the guts was the souvenir.

November 15, 2001. North America. The original Xbox was not a lime lantern. It was a heavy black box that made a different argument: PC power in the living room, a hard drive, a duke of a controller. Green lived in the button, the dashboard, the advertise. The shell that people now call OG Green arrive as edition and afterimage. Halo hardware made the chassis a fishbowl. You could see the metal. You could see that a game machine was also a computer.

Twenty-five years later the company puts that afterimage on mice and docks. Transparency as tribute. The joke is that the first box hid its board and the birthday box shows it. Memory edited the catalog. Marketing accepted the edit.

Jason Ronald, talking about the separate Series X25 console earlier in the year, said the translucent design was coming to Series X for the first time, drawn from the original machine and the OG Green players remember. The accessory collection is that sentence spread across other people’s factories. Microsoft did not tool a first-party mouse. It licensed a hue and a mood.

Seeing circuit was a 1990s and early 2000s habit. iMac Bondi. Clear Game Boys. Smoke Dreamcasts. The board as jewelry. Xbox’s green version of that habit was narrower and stickier. Once you had seen a Halo tower glowing on a shelf, black plastic felt like a cover-up.

The collection does not rebuild the duke. It does not reprint the original dashboard. It pours the remembered green over 2026 objects that already existed in black.

Razer takes three seats. Basilisk V3 Pro 35K, Xbox 25 Anniversary Edition: wireless ergonomic mouse, Focus Pro 35K Optical Sensor Gen-2, four-way scroll, up to 140 hours on the official card. BlackWidow V4 75 percent: compact, hot-swappable, Chroma RGB, an exclusive Xbox key that launches Game Bar. Hammerhead V3 X HyperSpeed: buds and case in the same green, HyperSpeed wireless and Bluetooth 5.3, up to ten hours in the ears and thirty-five with the case. Xbox 25 marks printed on the buds. Preorder through Razer.

None of those objects existed in 2001. The sensor counts, the hot-swap switches, the 2.4 gigahertz audio are this decade’s furniture wearing last decade’s paint. That is how anniversary hardware usually works. The emotion is in the lid. The specification is in the 2026 catalog.

8BitDo sends the Ultimate Charging Dock for Xbox controllers as an X25 Special Edition. Transparent green. Series X, Series S, Xbox One wireless pads. A modern charge under a shell that wants to look like a relic. Inspired by a piece of Xbox history, the Wire copy says, made for today’s setup.

Mobile is the other room. Backbone Pro, Xbox 25th Anniversary Edition, does not come in OG Green. Three heritage colorways: Iconic Blue, Bold Orange, Crystal Clear. Nods to 2001 hardware language that is not the Halo tower. Blind-box talk followed in some writeups. The official sentence is celebration of moments and milestones, three colors that first brought the brand to life.

GameSir X5 Lite for Xbox takes the green. Phone controller. Apple MFi on the record. iPhone and Android. The cheap seat at the table, if you insist on thinking in seats. It is also the piece that most literally puts OG Green in a commuter’s bag.

PowerA does not pour resin. The sling bag is fabric with anniversary graphics, cut to hold ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X handhelds, four compartments for device, headset, controller, phone. Crossbody. The one object in the lineup that cannot show you a circuit board because it has none.

Together the partners draw a map of where Xbox lives now. Desk. Couch charge. Train. Pocket. Shoulder. The 2001 box sat under a television and stayed there. The birthday kit assumes you have left the living room.

The Series X25 and its controller are a separate story with their own calendar. Numbered console. Matching pad. Halo: Campaign Evolved in the bundle. November launch talk. That object is the cake. This collection is the party favors, and the favors went to other brands.

That split is the interesting fact. Xbox at twenty-five is a service, a handheld partner, a PC store, a phone clip, a mouse with a sensor named like a rifle scope. Putting OG Green on a Basilisk admits the living room is no longer the whole house. Put heritage blue and orange on a Backbone admits that 2001 had more than one color in its mouth, even if memory standard on green.

Translucent plastic ages in public. Dust shows. Finger oil shows. A black shell hides the year. A clear shell dates itself the first week. That is why the original clear gadgets felt intimate. You watched them get old. The anniversary pieces will do the same. The green will scuff. The board will still be visible. The tribute will become a used object, which is the correct fate for a game peripheral.

November 15 will be the actual birthday. The accessories arrived early so the color could live on desks before the numbered tower ships. Preorder pages sit on each partner’s site. Shipping talk clusters around late October for much of the partner gear, ahead of the November console date.

Twenty-five years is long enough for a jewel to become a myth and a myth to become a SKU family. The first box hid its board. The birthday insists you look. Razer, 8BitDo, Backbone, GameSir, PowerA hold the flashlight. OG Green does the remembering. The circuitry, such as it is, shows through.
