A cream shade Nike has used only as a supporting tone on two women’s Mind 001 pairs takes over the whole mule in January 2027, with pink nodes underfoot.

Light Orewood Brown spent most of 2026 as a background player on the Mind 001. Nike listed it as a secondary tone on the women’s Summit White pair, and again on the women’s Tarp Green mule, where the green did most of the talking. The next women’s pair, style code HQ4309-103, reverses that order. The cream tone covers the molded foam upper and the perforated mesh panels, while pink takes the details: the vertical Swoosh at the midfoot, the small Swoosh on the forefoot, the heel tabs, and the 22 nodes that show through a cream footbed. On a shoe whose entire proposition sits underfoot, the brightest tint lands exactly where the stimulation happens.

Signal. What happened: Nike has a women’s Mind 001 in Light Orewood Brown with pink accents lined up as one of the model’s first rel of 2027. Exact object: Nike W Mind 001 “Light Orewood Brown,” style code HQ4309-103, women’s sizing. When and where: January 2027 through Nike and select retailers, reported at $95 in the U.S.; no Japanese release date has been set. Source: a Japan market rel notice, with Nike yet to post its own launch entry for this style code. Why it matters: it moves a shade Nike has so far used as a secondary color on the women’s Mind 001 into the lead, and it carries the mule’s release schedule into a second calendar year.

None of the hardware changes for January. Nike’s Mind Science Department, a group inside the Nike Sport Research Lab, introduced the Mind 001 mule and the lace-up Mind 002 in October 2025 as its first products. Each shoe carries 22 independent foam nodes bonded to a flexible, water-resistant layer, so they behave like small pistons and gimbals as the foot moves and relay the texture of the ground beneath. Nike puts the engineering and manufacturing effort at more than a decade. The designers also shaped both silhouettes to feel directionless, avoiding any suggestion of speed so the wearer slows down.

The claim behind it is neurological rather than mechanical. Nike says its neuroscientists tracked mechanical sensor data, muscle signals and brain rhythms during development, and that the system engages the brain’s sensorimotor network while helping switch off the default mode network, the state associated with a wandering mind. Eric Avar, Nike’s VP and creative director of innovation, described Mind as a new sensory footwear concept meant to reawaken the foot, the body and the mind. In the same explainer, chief science officer Matthew Nurse set the project against 45 years of Nike research into muscles, joints and oxygen, adding: “Now, we’re expanding into the mind.” Nike also says hundreds of athletes, Erling Haaland among them, tested the system over the five years before launch.

Nike pitches both shoes for the stretch before and after competition rather than for play itself. The mule went on sale at Nike.com on January 8, 2026, in four hues, the same day it reached Japan, priced at $95 against $145 for the Mind 002, figures Nike’s U.S. site still carries. Nike’s women’s list cover the rest of the build: soft foam in the midsole, stretch fabric across the footbed so the nodes can rise and fall, rubber pods near the toe and heel for traction, and a perforated knit tongue. Nike suggests sizing up for anyone between half sizes.

Through 2026 the Mind 001 settled into a steady rhythm of drops. The launch pairs leaned on Light Smoke Grey and Black with Hyper Crimson nodes, and later rel moved into bolder reds, gradient Flyknit versions and darker monochrome takes. Hiroshi Fujiwara gave the model its first collaboration, a black fragment design edition presented under a “Concept Testing” banner, with a Flyknit upper and midsole branding styled after factory sample stamps, listed by Nike at $90.

Nike runs the women’s Mind 001 under its own style-code family, HQ4309, alongside the men’s HQ4307, and the women’s line is where Light Orewood Brown first surfaced. The Summit White pair (HQ4309-101) set it alongside Phantom and Metallic Silver, and Tarp Green (HQ4309-301) paired it with Black and Metallic Dark Grey this autumn. Nike Japan writes the shade in katakana as ライトオールウッドブラウン, which reads back into English as “Light All Wood Brown,” the name the January pair carries in Japanese rel listicle. In Nike’s English tincture naming it remains Light Orewood Brown.

Nike has not posted a launch page for HQ4309-103, so the January timing rests on a Japan market rel notice that lists the Japanese date as unknown. U.S. rel reports split between a January 1 date and a looser spring 2027 window. The same Japan notice gives the colorway as Black/White, which does not match the cream and pink pair in circulating images, and Nike’s full-tincture string has not been published. Those reports also pair it with an all-pink women’s Mind 001 called “Neo Pink” (HQ4309-602) on the same schedule, another detail Nike has yet to confirm. The reported $95 price matches what Nike charges for the women’s Mind 001 now. In Japan, Nike Japan lists the women’s Summit White pair at ¥13,200 including tax, and no Japanese price for the Light Orewood Brown version has been announced.
