Crocodile-pressed Bog Green leather, a glow-in-the-dark glare split across two heels, and Shibuya’s skyline on the tongue, landing October 23.

Set one shoe down and its heel tab shows a single narrowed eye, sharp at the corners, looking backward. Set the second beside it and the face completes itself: a matched pair of eyes watching whatever approaches from behind. That is the central trick of Nike’s latest Dunk Low Premium, a Halloween pair built around Tokyo’s Shibuya district and due in the United States on October 23, and it is the detail most likely to define the shoe once the lights go down.

Signal. What happened: Nike has a Shibuya-themed Halloween Dunk Low scheduled for late October, pairing its “SBY” city mark with glow-in-the-dark eyes and a crocodile-embossed upper. Exact object: Nike Dunk Low Premium “Shibuya City” in Bog Green/Black/Luminous Green/Bog Green, style code IX5169-300, priced at $130. When and where: October 23, 2026, through Nike.com in the United States; a Japanese release date and yen price had not been confirmed as of October 1. Source: a Japan market release notice published this week; no Nike launch page for the style code had surfaced at the time of writing. Why it matters: the pair joins two Nike threads that rarely meet on the Dunk, the near-annual Halloween colorway and the Shibuya “SBY” logo best known from a 2019 Air Force 1 pack. Earlier: we covered the UNION x Nike Dunk Low SP in Off Noir and Bamboo, another Fall 2026 Dunk that leans on premium materials rather than new shapes.

The upper is full-grain leather pressed with a deep crocodile-style emboss, the kind of texture that reads almost flat in shadow and then throws up a field of raised scales when light rakes across it. Bog Green, a murky swamp tone, splits the panels with black, while the side Swoosh and the laces stay in the same dark register instead of breaking out in contrast. The Dunk’s standard panel layout is left alone. All of the drama comes from surface and color, which gives the shoe a reptilian, slightly armored look without touching its familiar outline.

stir

The city reference sits on the tongue and the insole, where an “SBY” logo sets the Swoosh against a row of buildings. Nike has used the mark before. Nike’s 2019 Air Force 1 “Shibuya” pack ran to three Japan-only pairs, each embroidered with SBY and a skyline on the heel counter, and the first of them was a Halloween shoe: orange and black, with translucent panels at the toe and quarter, released on October 31 that year. The new Dunk picks up that seven-year-old pairing of district and holiday, and moves the logo from the heel counter to the tongue and footbed.

The timing carries its own irony. Shibuya’s scramble crossing became Tokyo’s default Halloween gathering point over the 2010s, and the ward has spent recent Octobers working to thin those crowds out, starting with a 2019 ordinance against street drinking that followed revelers overturning a truck near the crossing in 2018. A year-round nighttime drinking ban around Shibuya Station arrived in 2024, and last October the Hachiko statue outside the station was fenced off to keep people from gathering. A Halloween shoe stamped with the district’s initials now lands in a neighborhood that asks costumed visitors to celebrate somewhere else, or at least more quietly.

The Dunk itself began as a team-colors basketball shoe. Peter Moore sketched it in 1985 under the working name “College Color High,” and Nike launched it that August through the “Be True to Your School” campaign, matching shoes to college programs. Its flat, grippy sole later carried it off the hardwood and into skateboarding through the 1990s, the detour that turned a modest seller into a fixture. Four decades on, the colorblocked overlays that once carried school colors have become one of Nike’s most dependable seasonal canvases, and Halloween has turned into a recurring slot on the calendar.

extend

The closest relative of the new pair is the 2021 Dunk Low “Halloween,” a $110 rel whose black leather overlays hid painted creature eyes that glowed in the dark over a glow-in-the-dark outsole. Nike’s own product copy teased the effect, suggesting that a closer look would give the wearer the creeps. Three years later, the 2024 Dunk Low “Halloween” in Bright Cactus, Black and Green Curry went rougher, with crackled leather and a skull etched into the toe box, at $130. The 2026 pair sits between the two. It keeps the 2024 price and the green-and-black mood, but returns to the glowing-eye idea, concentrating it into two heel tabs instead of spreading it across the overlays.

Beneath the embossed leather, the construction stays close to the standard Dunk Low, with a padded collar and a foam midsole. The Japan market release notice that surfaced the pair lists it under the name “Shibuya City,” while some Japanese retail list have used a plain “Halloween” nickname instead, and it places the U.S. launch on Nike.com a week ahead of Halloween itself. For Japan, home market of the earlier SBY Air Force 1 run, the picture is less settled. As of October 1, the only confirmed date for IX5169-300 is the American one, and a Japanese rel date, retailer list and yen price have yet to be published.
