Lil Uzi Vert Keeps The Stay-Going On “Poured”

A birthday surprise EP hides a woozy, three minute toast to excess, and Uzi barely comes up for air.

Lil Uzi Vert turned 31 on July 31 and marked it the way they tend to mark most milestones, by surprise rel project with almost no warning. Maverick “Almost Forever” landed that night as an eight track EP, arriving hours after a scheduled Lollapalooza set got scrapped over weather and exactly a decade after The Perfect LUV Tape first put Uzi on the map. “Poured” sits at track three, sandwiched between the opener “Go!” and “223,” a long rumored cut pulled from the much discussed Barter 16 sessions.

The song itself runs a tight three minutes and keeps its ambitions modest by design. Over a beat that leans into the syrupy, half lucid register Uzi has returned to throughout their catalog, the hook circles a single image, a cup getting refilled, repeated with just enough variation to feel like a mantra rather than a chorus. It is not a song built to unpack in verses so much as one built to loop, which tracks with how much of Maverick plays: eight tracks, no features, Uzi carrying every hook and verse alone.

What makes “Poured” land in context is less the song on its own and more what it says about where Uzi is right now. Maverick “Almost Forever” is the rapper’s first project since 2024’s Eternal Atake 2, and it comes after a run of 2025 singles, “Relevant” and “Chanel Boy” among them, that doubled as a shh  announcement of a new indie era following a deal with Roc Nation Distribution. Where Eternal Atake 2 drew a mixed reaction from longtime fans, “Poured” and the tracks around it feel like a deliberate return to the frenetic, melodic trap mode that built Uzi’s fanbase in the first place, buzzy and rapid rather than experimental.

The EP’s cover, a childhood photo of Uzi with their grandmother reworked with stylized effects, hides a message reading “album after this,” positioning Maverick as a placeholder rather than the main event. Taken that way, “Poured” reads less like a statement single and more like proof of life: a rapper who has spent two years mostly out of the spotlight reminding listeners the pen and the ear for a hook are both still intact, without needing to make a bigger case than that.
