Neon Mary’s “Sugary Tennis” Turns Summer Sport Into a Dream-like Abstract Painting

In the bustling creative heart of Berlin, where raw urban energy meets soft, introspective beauty, German artist Neon Mary has crafted a standout piece that perfectly captures the spirit of summer freedom and playful vitality. Titled Sugary Tennis (2025), this original abstract painting masterfully blends Grey, Mint, Teal, Blue, White, Pink, Rosa, and Green into a dynamic composition that evokes the joy of outdoor sport, the bounce of a tennis ball, and the sweet, sun-drenched atmosphere of a perfect summer day. Measuring 27.5 inches in width by 39.4 inches in height (70 cm x 100 cm) with a 0.8-inch (2 cm) depth on a professional stretcher frame, this work is a ready-to-hang masterpiece finished with protective varnish for lasting vibrancy.

Priced as a unique original from GF | Gallery Fedoroff, Sugary Tennis stands as a testament to Neon Mary’s signature style: the harmonious fusion of soft pastels and electrifying neon-inspired hues that celebrate femininity, movement, and emotional resonance. Painted with high-quality oil colors on premium 380g canvas, the piece is hand-signed and dated on the back, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The sides are fully painted, making it gallery-ready without the need for framing.

stir

Born in 1990 and based in Berlin, Neon Mary emerged as a compelling voice in the city’s thriving contemporary art scene. Berlin’s cultural melting pot—its mix of historical depth, street energy, techno rhythms, and green park escapes—has profoundly shaped her practice. Her works consistently explore the duality of strength and softness, mirroring the contrasts of urban life: the hard edges of concrete juxtaposed with the gentle bloom of spring flowers or the playful bounce of a tennis ball on clay courts.

Neon Mary’s palette is her most distinctive trademark. She masterfully merges delicate, sugary pinks and mint greens with bolder teals, blues, and vibrant accents that feel almost neon-lit, even though they are achieved through traditional oil pigments. This creates a luminous quality that makes her canvases feel alive, pulsing with an inner energy that invites viewers to linger, reflect, and smile.

In Sugary Tennis, this approach reaches a joyful peak. The title itself suggests sweetness—both literal and metaphorical. “Sugary” implies the delightful, almost indulgent pleasure of play, while “Tennis” grounds the abstraction in a recognizable sport that symbolizes freedom, competition, health, and summer leisure. The painting doesn’t depict literal players or a court in a figurative sense; instead, it translates the feeling of the game into pure color, texture, and rhythm.

flow

At first glance, Sugary Tennis presents a lush field of overlapping forms and layered hues. Soft white and grey passages act as breathing spaces, allowing the eye to rest before diving into energetic bursts of Pink and Rosa. These warmer tones evoke flushed cheeks after a rally, the glow of sunset on skin, or the playful femininity that Neon Mary so often champions.

Mint, Teal, and Green dominate large areas, suggesting the fresh grass of a tennis court, the dappled shade of nearby trees, or the invigorating outdoor environment where sport meets nature. These cooler tones provide balance and serenity, preventing the composition from becoming overly sweet or chaotic. Strategic pops of Blue add depth and sky-like openness, reminding viewers of endless summer days spent outdoors.

The abstract forms within the painting suggest movement without being literal. Swirling, curved gestures mimic the arc of a tennis ball in flight or the fluid motion of a player’s swing. Geometric hints—perhaps faint lines or rectangular blocks in softer greys—nod to the structured lines of a court, while organic, flowing sections celebrate the unpredictable joy of the game. The textured application of oil paint, built up in layers, creates a tactile quality that rewards close viewing. You can almost feel the bounce, the speed, the light sweat on the skin.

This painting belongs to a broader series where Neon Mary explores sports and free activity as metaphors for life. Similar works, such as her golf or other athletic-themed abstracts, show her interest in capturing the essence of physical freedom and mental release through color. In Sugary Tennis, the “sugary” element adds a layer of optimism and indulgence—art as a treat for the senses and the soul.

craft

Neon Mary works exclusively with professional-grade oil colors and pigments on heavy 380g canvas, ensuring archival quality. The canvas is stretched on robust wooden stretcher bars, providing a solid foundation for the thick, expressive impasto in certain areas and smoother glazes in others. This variation in texture enhances the painting’s dynamic feel—some sections appear soft and velvety, while others have a vibrant, almost glowing presence thanks to the final coats of UV-protective varnish.

The varnish not only deepens the colors but also shields the work from dust, moisture, and light damage, making it ideal for both private homes and commercial spaces. Because the sides are painted, collectors can hang it unframed for a modern, contemporary look or add a subtle floating frame if desired.

As a one-of-a-kind piece, Sugary Tennis carries the full weight of the artist’s hand. Every brushstroke reflects hours in her Berlin studio, where she translates personal emotions and observations into visual poetry. The work is signed on the reverse and comes with official documentation from GF | Gallery Fedoroff, guaranteeing its provenance and authenticity.

straddle

Why tennis? In Neon Mary’s world, sport represents liberation. Tennis, in particular, embodies grace under pressure, quick decision-making, and the pure pleasure of movement in nature. For many, especially women navigating modern life, it symbolizes empowerment—claiming space, asserting strength, while still embracing joy and playfulness.

The “sugary” aspect softens this athleticism, infusing it with feminine energy. Pink and Rosa tones celebrate traditional associations with femininity without limiting them to stereotypes. Instead, they mix boldly with active greens and teals, suggesting a holistic vision: softness paired with vitality, rest paired with action.

In today’s fast-paced world, where burnout is common, Sugary Tennis serves as a visual reminder to seek balance. It invites us to step outside, feel the sun, engage in free activity, and find sweetness in simple pleasures. Office spaces, modern living rooms, wellness studios, or even sports facilities would benefit from its uplifting presence. The painting works beautifully in both minimalist and eclectic interiors, adding a burst of optimistic color without overwhelming the room.

As a unique original by an emerging Berlin artist, Sugary Tennis holds strong appeal for collectors seeking fresh, emotionally resonant work. Neon Mary’s pieces have gained traction through platforms like Artsy and Saatchi Art, where her vibrant abstracts consistently attract attention for their accessibility and depth.

The 100 x 70 cm size is versatile—substantial enough to make a statement on a feature wall yet manageable for most homes. Its condition is pristine, freshly completed in 2025, ensuring the buyer receives a work at the peak of its vibrancy.

For interior designers and collectors, this painting offers excellent versatility. It pairs wonderfully with neutral furniture, mid-century modern pieces, or even athletic-inspired decor. The color story complements contemporary palettes trending toward joyful maximalism and biophilic design (bringing nature indoors).

why

In an art world often dominated by conceptual heaviness or digital detachment, Neon Mary’s work feels refreshingly human. It celebrates the body in motion, the joy of play, and the beauty of everyday experiences elevated through color. Sugary Tennis is not just decoration—it is an emotional anchor, a daily dose of positivity that brightens moods and sparks conversations.

Viewers frequently describe her paintings as “energizing yet calming,” a rare combination achieved through careful color balancing and intuitive composition. This piece, in particular, captures the optimistic spirit of summer 2025–2026, a time when many sought reconnection with outdoor life post-pandemic reflections.

length

To preserve Sugary Tennis, hang it away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity. The protective varnish handles normal household conditions well, but gentle dusting with a soft cloth every few months will keep it looking fresh. Because it is varnished and on high-quality canvas, it requires minimal maintenance while offering decades of enjoyment.
